Howdy folks-here's a story that appeared in the Marianas Variety about the first comics for cancer fundraising event. Yours truly was the celebrity guest comedian. It was my first time out, but I figured it was for a good cause so I couldn't go wrong. It was a lot of fun. Much thanks to Ralph Rivera, Ambros Inc. and the multi talented Rick and Ronnie who hosted for free. Do yourself a favor and check out next weeks events.

Families thankful for comedians standing up for cancer By Trina A. San Agustin Variety News Staff“I AM overwhelmed,” said Anthony Taitague of Malesso, after watching Friday night’s comedy show fundraiser aimed at assisting families with children fighting cancer.
“It is a good show with a lot of great talent. You can’t really see a relation between cancer and comedy, but like what local comedian Ralph Rivera mentioned, in actuality, the comedians are using a real strong bond by using their talent to fight cancer and it is great,” he added.
Taitague is the father of the late Justice Josephine Gofigan Taitague who was diagnosed in late 2002 with T-Cell Lymphoma and passed away on Feb. 9, 2003 in Loma Linda, California where she was receiving treatment. She was 5 years old.
Justice’s fight against her cancer spawned the island’s first bone marrow drive, which brought thousands of residents together to see if they may have been a match to Justice.
Others who were not able to donate their marrow, just donated money and prayers to her family. Friday night’s comedy show wasn’t just that, as the Taitague family donated a statue of an angel and had it auctioned off. Residents and politicians at the event were seen raising their hands bidding as much as $50 when Ambros Inc. outbid those in the crowd purchasing/donating $500 for the angel. The money from the bid went to several foundations to help stand up against children’s cancer. After three local professional comedians and an amateur performance which made the crowd laugh until their stomach’s hurt, the surprise celebrity comedian,
local News Talk Radio show host Travis Coffman stood up for the cause and continued with the happy tummy aches. The American Cancer Society, the Justice G. Taitague Foundation and the Travis Q. Gogue Foundation are the three primary non-profit groups that will receive the money from Friday night’s events. The first round of elimination was held on Friday. The second elimination round will be held at the Holiday Resort in Tumon on Aug. 5, with the final round on Aug. 12 at the Roxbury in Hagatna. All amateur comedians are competing for a cash prize. Those interested in supporting the cause or wanting to compete can contact Rivera at 366-6761 or 482-3558.
