Seussfest at LBJ Elementary

Nothing makes me happier than having the opportunity to hang out with the kids and read a book. This particular day I got to read "One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish" to a class full of kids at LBJ. Thanks btw to Tess Cuenco here at SPJ for scanning these photos so that I could put em in the computer.

Celebrity Golfing-w/the late Larry Hillblom

Okay, accuse me of being a name dropper of the worst order. But when I was going through my old news photos I ran accross this one. It my one and only picture of my former boss..the late Larry Hillblom (DHL founder). We were working with ABS/CBN on a joint feature on overseas contract workers in the Northern Marianas Islands. Larry is on the left, That's me in the shades with the diminutive caddy holding the umbrella. Gus Abelgas of ABS/CBN is on the far right. Yes we were on the golf course in Tagaytay. FYI Larry shot terribly, but I was worse :-)

Travis TV News Guy

Recently it was announced that Sorensen Pacific Broadcasting is getting into television. While I won't be drafted into the news department, but I more than likely will get to help out once in a while...should be fun..but it wont be my first time working on TV. Check out these picts from my previous TV news gig on Saipan

That's me on the far right. Chau Nguyen is featured center. She still works in TV News btw. I think in Houston or Atlanta. Veteran sports guy Bob Coldeen is on the far left.

More cool Scud Pix

Former Guam resident and Public Affairs Officer Michel Escudie has been great about sending us copies of cool pix and letters he's been sending his family...had to share these with you

Dear Family - Some more photos from another of many trips around our vast area of operations in US Central Command. After seeing the hollowed out palaces behind me and the 9mm Berreta pistol in my holster, you'll have to guess where we visited.
Miss you, Michel

Miss You, Michel

On the way back from a recent visit to a neighboring country, we visited the USS Enterprise aircraft carrier. Pilots cot cute and did an almost 90 degree bank over the boat, but then it took them 3 tiries to catch one of 4 cables on the flightdeck and land. I was pretty close to throwing up (two colonels on board did) but didn't want to disgrace the Air Force, nor my new boss, who is an Air Force general. After landing, the ship's executive officer looked at me, then summoned a nurse who administered dramamine. I usually carry 40lbs of gear around too. Watching takeoffs and landing from 25ft away was awesome. High-speed catapult assisted takeoff was another experience.
Two pictures, for you.

My Buddy Scud visits Africa Djibouti!

Another great postcard from former Guam resident Miche Escudie we copied his note to his family hear cause we wanted an excuse to say Djiibouti!

Subject: Postcard: Djibouti

With this trip to NE Africa behind us, I count two continents yet to visit (saving Antarctica for a vacation with Mumma ). Best part of the visit is now Matthew (Scud's son) can run around the house saying Djibouti with impunity. Didn't get to see much of the country, but enough to stir memories of Haiti. And met three US Army officers there from Haiti (actually NE Dade County now) whose French fluency and appearance put them at the forefront in dealings with the village elders.

Miss you, Michel

Sonya Thomas the world's greatest eater

THE 105-POUND "BLACK WIDOW" WINS ANOTHER EATING CONTEST:

SONYA "THE BLACK WIDOW" THOMAS of Alexandria, Virginia. . . the 105-pound eating contest SUPERSTAR. . . and the number two-ranked competitive eater in the world. And, on Wednesday, 37-year-old Sonya won ANOTHER eating contest. -She managed to eat nine-and-a-half standard-sized boxes of movie popcorn in 12 minutes. . . She also holds the record for wings, hotdogs and vienna sausages. Yum!

My Buddy Scud visits Kuwait

Here's another great letter from former Guam Resident Michel "Scud" Escudie

Just filthy rich and very hospitable those Kuwaitis. And very good to U.S. Forces, because our presence is pretty much the alligators in their moat. It was sad to hear them tell us that with Saddam done, they hope to found out what happened to more than 600 POWs who dissappeared during and after the 1990-91 Iraqi invasion.

I'm no expert, but've come to appreciate that Iraq is only part of current concerns we share. A more unstable region due to troubles in neighboring Iran or Saudi Arabia would be a bad thing for us all. Other smaller countries could cause a dust-up too...don't even want to think about it.
So, here I am squinting at the sun, not thinking about international relations, missing you, and asking one of the sergeants with us to snap a picture just before we left the Intl Airport for the flight back to our HQ.
Much Love, Michel

Postcard from my buddy Scud

Good friend of mine Michel Escudie "Scud" used to be the Public Affairs Officer out at Anderson Airforce base. He's been good about sending picture postcards from his tour of the worlds hot spots. I wanted to share a few with out listeners. That's Scud on the left.

Dear Family - Another short trip, we were a little north of Baghdad (mud everywhere), then went to see the Brits who are minding things in Souhern Iraq. This picture shows the humvee I was in. The right-rear wheel fell off the first humvee (right under me) and we swerved around a bit, narrowly missing a truck. Gotta love the Army. The joke amongst those in our stopped convoy was that I need to make less trips to the ice cream bar at the dining hall--real funny, especially since I've lost weight here.
I'm with the lieutenant who escorted us and said his back hurt from the whole ordeal. Looks like he recovered. Ironically, I was worried about the recent rocket attacks on the base when the wheel fell off the vehicle in a loud "Thud".

Miss You, Michel

Marine Drive Morph!

How do you know when you've made it? You get morphed in Marine Drive Magazine. Who do they morph me with Brad Pitt? Jude Law? Jeff Bridges even. Nope. Try Tom Arnold. The saddest thing of all is that it's a pretty good morph ;-0

The Wonder Years meet 30 something

MY, HOW WINNIE FROM "THE WONDER YEARS" HAS GROWN!!!

You remember sweet, wholesome Winnie Cooper from "The Wonder Years", don't you??? Not like THIS you don't. Check out actress DANICA MCKELLAR. . . who's 30-years-old now. . . in her very first sexy photo spread EVER. . . courtesy of "Stuff" magazine. . .check out the rest of the pictures here: Danica!

  • Bigshow at AK

There's no real good reason for putting this one here except to show you how cool it looks to have our banner hanging inside the Lexus Showroom. Makes you wish your office cubicle had windows like this yes?

    The AK Lexus Showroom!

Check it out! It's the AK Lexus Showroom. Tom Walsh, cool former media guy and man about town pays a visit to us on location. Doing the show at the Lexus showroom is a lot of fun cause you can look out the window and check out traffic while you are doing the show. Even more fun is watching the reaction of people that walk throught the showroom and have no idea what I am doing and wonder why I'm talking to myself.

    Big Show Ad

Groovy Picture Yes? This ad represents the one and only time the marketing folks at Sorensen Pacific Broadcasting published an ad with anything to say specifically about just my show. (In other ads I had to share the marquee with Jon Anderson, Ray Gibson etc) Anyhow this one was in Real Woman Magazine. Notice the nice short hair and clean shaven face. I like to call it my All American Look and I was sporting it cause at the time I thought they were going to stick me in the morning slot at K-57 and I didn't want to freak out the blue rinse crowd with my usual grizzled state. However the powers that be ultimately decided that my smart aleck brand of news and entertainment was better suited for the afternoon so I didn't have to keep the clean cut look for long. Hence my shaggy self as seen in other pictures on this site ;-) True Big Show facts!

    The Big Show family

As you can see. Moments after the previous incident both Alicia and Frances come to their senses and readily accept my honest and forthright explanation of the "accident". Yea right. Just another day on the Big Show

    Goofing around on picture day

Do you remember picture day at school? The goofier photos are always more memorable than the ones that make the yearbook. This was picture day at Sorensen Pacific Broadcasting. This particular shot is taken moments after Alicia backed into my hand and tells the photographer that I intentionally grabbed a handful of backside. For the record I did know such thing. Frances, as you can see is less convinced of my innocence.

    What do you mean we?

When I say that we appreciate you listening. I meant the entire Big Show Team. Travis, Frances and Alicia. Aren't I a lucky guy? Btw, that's Alica Perez on the left and Frances Recheungel on the right. I'm the hairy one in the middle.

    Hiya! Welcome to the Bigshow

Welcome to the Big Show Blog! I figured if I didn't get started with this thing soon..I never was gonna get anything posted. I'll try to remember to put some goodies on this page on a fairly regular basis. Work with me people okay? Thanks by the way for listening to the show. We appreciate it!
