CNMI Cuts Government Costs!
FOR the first time in its history, the CNMI is shutting down most of its government offices today in accordance with Public Law 15-24 which declares 26 Fridays in fiscal years 2006 and 2007 as unpaid austerity holidays.
Except for government offices with critical functions like the police, public elementary and high schools, the fire department and the hospital, among others, all others will be closed, including the courts, pending the enactment into law of a bill empowering the chief justice or the presiding judge to exempt critically needed employees.
